About Mount Meru

Mount Meru is a prominent stratovolcano located in Arusha National Park in Tanzania. It stands at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet) and is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, following Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mount Meru is known for its stunning scenery, including lush forests, diverse wildlife, and beautiful views of Kilimanjaro on clear days. The mountain is often considered a challenging climb, with various routes leading to its summit. The most common route is the Mirage, which takes climbers through beautiful landscapes and presents a range of ecological zones.

4 DAYS MOUNT MERU TREKKING ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Morning: Arrive in Arusha and transfer to your hotel. Relax and adjust to altitude.

Afternoon: Briefing with your guide. Visit local markets or Arusha National Park.

Evening: Dinner at local restaurant. Prepare gear for the trek.

Day 2: Arusha to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

1,500m → 2,500m 3-4 hours

Early breakfast, drive to Momella Gate. Trek through forest with wildlife viewing. Continue to Miriakamba Hut. Dinner and briefing for next day.

Day 3: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

2,500m → 3,570m 2-3 hours

After breakfast, trek to Saddle Hut. Optionally hike to Little Meru viewpoint (3,820m) for spectacular views. Dinner and prepare for early morning summit.

Day 4: Summit Day – Saddle Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descend

3,570m → 4,566m ↓ 4-5 hours ascent

Start summit attempt around 1:00 AM. Reach Uhuru Peak (4,566m) for sunrise and incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Descend to Saddle Hut for breakfast, then continue to Miriakamba Hut and Momella Gate. Transfer back to Arusha for celebration dinner.
